A former priest has appeared in court charged with indecent assault offences dating back over 35 years.

Tony Walsh was remanded in custody for service of the book of evidence next week.

The 67-year-old was charged with two counts of indecent assault of a male between January 1983 and December 1985.

Garda Laura Brennan of Clondalkin Garda Station told the court he "made no reply" when the charges were put to him this morning.

The court was told that the complainant made a report in May 2019 to a Garda Protective Services Unit.

A file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions who issued the direction in June to charge Mr Walsh.

There had been no previous report made by the complainant, the court heard, and the DPP has directed trial on indictment, meaning the case will be transferred to the higher Circuit Court.
