A 34-year-old man has appeared in court in Monaghan charged with firearms offences after gardaí seized four guns and ammunition earlier this week.

Robert Smullen with an address at Halliday Road in Dublin 7 was brought before Carrickmacross District Court this afternoon.

He faces six charges for possession of firearms and two for possession of two different types of ammunition under section 27a of the Firearms Act.

Garda Ronan Carroll gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.

He told the court the accused made no reply when charged.

Gardaí objected to bail and Judge Gerry Jones remanded Robert Smullen in custody to appear again next month at Cloverhill District Court.
