A man has been before the District Court in Cork charged with two counts of possession of child abuse images.
John Murray, of Bracken Court, Donnybrook, Cork, was arrested this morning by Detective Garda Joanne O'Sullivan of the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
She charged Mr Murray with possession of a text conversation of a sexual nature between the accused and another party. She also charged him with possession of child pornographic images on a Toshiba laptop.
Mr Murray was brought before Judge Olann Kelleher at Cork District Court.
Detective Garda O'Sullivan told Judge Kelleher that Mr Murray made no reply when the charges were put to him.
State Solicitor Frank Nyhan said the Director of Public Prosecutions had issued instructions for trial on indictment before a judge and jury at the circuit criminal court.
The court was told that a signed plea of guilty could be entered at the District Court, if Mr Murray wanted his case to be sent forward to the Circuit Court for sentencing.
He was released on bail on his own bond of €400. He must sign on once weekly at Togher Garda Station and he must not have any contact with witnesses in the case.
The case was adjourned until 5 December to allow gardaí to prepare a book of evidence.
