University Hospital Galway has said a Covid-19 outbreak is having a significant impact on services there.
It said staff are dealing with outbreaks on two wards, with a further two wards being used to care for Covid-positive patients.
A total of 39 people are in UHG with coronavirus this evening.
The hospital said it has seen a significant increase in the number of people presenting for treatment and there are long delays at the Emergency Department.
Pressure on bed capacity has led to the postponement of a number of elective procedures. Impacted patients are being contacted by the hospital.
Management said urgent cases will not be impacted, once it is safe for them to be carried out.
