One of the oldest provincial newspapers in the country has launched an ePaper at a time when many local papers are struggling and with some having laid off staff.
The Sligo Champion, which was founded in 1836, has published a digital version of the physical paper for the first time.
Executive Editor Paul Deering said the ePaper is a response to the changing needs of readers, especially in the time of a pandemic, but said they have been working on it for several months now.
Mr Deering said that the ePaper will appeal to readers not just at home, but away, helping to connect those in other parts of the country, or the world, with the local communities in their hearts.
He reiterated the importance of reliable and trusted local journalism and in a message to readers of the weekly paper said that "the future of your local newspaper is in your hands".
