Gardaí are appealing for witnesses in relation to a bank robbery which occurred in Strokestown, Co Roscommon, yesterday afternoon.

Four men wearing balaclavas and gloves entered a bank on Church Street in Strokestown at around 2.15pm, one man was believed to be armed with a handgun.

The group threatened staff and demanded cash. 

They left the bank after a short time with an undisclosed amount of cash and made their getaway in a black Audi A4 with UK registered number plates driven by a fifth man.

No injuries were reported.

It is believed the group drove up Elphin Street, took a right turn and drove in the direction of Kilmore.
