Two motorcyclists have been killed in separate road collisions in counties Roscommon and Down.

In Roscommon, a man in his 40s died after his motorcycle collided with a car at around 1pm at Summerhill, Athlone. 

The man was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel and taken by ambulance to University Hospital Galway where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The scene has been preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local traffic diversions are in place.

Meanwhile in Co Down, a 66-year-old motorcyclist died following a two-vehicle crash in Newry.

The motorcyclist was involved in a collision with a Land Rover Discovery, which was towing a caravan, on the Warrenpoint Road at around 12.30pm.
