Engineer and Entrepreneur Dr Edmond Harty has been appointed President of Engineers Ireland.

Dr Harty was inaugurated as the 131st president at the body's AGM yesterday.

Established in 1835, Engineers Ireland is a voice of the engineering profession across the Island of Ireland and further afield, with branches in Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand. T

he professional membership body currently represents some 25,000 engineers of all disciplines.

In addition to a number of non-executive roles, Dr Harty is also the Founder of Innovalogix, an investment and consultancy firm.

Previously Dr Harty was the CEO and largest shareholder of Dairymaster, a dairy innovation and technology company that he built and led over a 22-year period.

"It's an absolute honour and privilege to be appointed as President of Engineers Ireland, an organisation which I have been a member of since my college days. I would like to thank our outgoing President John Power for his outstanding work and commitment to the institution and our members," Dr Harty said.

John Jordan, Managing Director of Wirtgen Ireland was inaugurated to the role of Vice-President at the professional membership body's AGM.

He joins Laura Burke, Director General of the Environmental Protection Agency, as Vice President of the professional membership body.

"I am honoured to be elected as Vice-President of Engineers Ireland. As Vice President, I look forward to working with President, Dr Edmond Harty, fellow Vice President Laura Burke, and the wider membership to leverage the talent of our engineering community and to support and nurture our growing membership," Mr Jordan said.
