New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that production in Manufacturing Industries increased by 5.2% in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared with the previous quarter.
On an annual basis, the CSO said that production in Manufacturing Industries was 26.3% greater in the three months from October to December than the same time in 2021.
Today's figures show that production in the "Modern" sector, which includes the pharmaceutical, computer, electronic and medical Instrumentation sectors, recorded a 27% increase in the fourth quarter of 2022, compared with the same time in 2021.
The corresponding increase for the "Traditional" sector was 15.5%.
The CSO said the increase in industrial output largely reflects increases in export manufacturing activity, as well as contract manufacturing in the multinational sectors.
