Ryanair says it carried 16.8 million passengers on its flights in July.

It was up form 15.9 million in June and up 81% on the 9.3 million customers carried in the same month last year.

However, the industry was trying to recover from a Covid-induced hit to the aviation sector at that time.

Its load factor - the proportion of seats on flights that were occupied - was 96%.

It was up significantly on the same month last year when around four in every five seats on flights were occupied.

Ryanair says it operated around 92,300 flights in July.
