Iarnród Éireann is launching a series of recruitment rounds in the coming weeks that will see it taking on an additional 150 staff.

The operator of the national railway network is looking to recruit up to 80 train drivers from today.

These roles will be based at a number of locations, including Dublin - also covering DART services - Cork, Drogheda, Dundalk, Limerick, Galway, Mallow, Portlaoise, Sligo and Waterford.

Next Monday, the company will initiate an apprenticeship campaign for 30 places across Fitter, Electrician and Heavy Vehicle Mechanic trades.

Also on that day, at least 20 positions as Station Operatives in the Greater Dublin Area will be advertised.

These positions, the company says, will focus on assisting customers as well as working on train operations in city centre and commuter stations.

From Wednesday of next week, 30 positions as on-board Customer Service Officers across the Iarnród Éireann network will be advertised.

Those wishing to apply for the apprenticeship roles are being asked to complete an online 'preview quiz' in advance of applying.

"With the planned expansion of services as part of the National Development Plan, it is an exciting time to become part of a growing organisation," Jim Meade, CEO of Iarnród Éireann said.

"We are also seeing great interest in careers in Iarnród Éireann from a range of backgrounds. We are a diverse and inclusive employer, and in particular we urge more women to apply for driver roles, and are encouraged by the increasing interest from women in recent recruitment drives," he added.
