It marks the start of the festive period for many, but this year, Gifted, the Contemporary Craft & Design Fair at the RDS is postponed.

The five day event normally sees 40,000 people buying gifts for Christmas from Irish designers and brands.

The pandemic and the restrictions it has brought, means such a busy event was not going to be possible this year. Instead, Gifted has moved online.

"We  have over 200 of our exhibitors listed on our website GiftedfromIreland.com," said Gifted CEO, Patrick O'Sullivan. "We have over 5,000 products there, offering all the very best in Irish design and Irish made products that will make unique Christmas presents for customers who would normally come to the RDS."

He encouraged people who normally visit the fair at the RDS, that if at all possible, to come and visit exhibitors on the website.

The face to face meeting of exhibitors and customers is hugely beneficial, and it will be missed this year.

"That is one of the major attractions of the show, both from the exhibitors point of view and indeed the consumers' point of view," Mr O'Sullivan said. "From a business perspective, when an exhibitor meets the final consumer of their products, obviously the sales are important but so too is the feedback.

"They walk away from the RDS brimful of ideas of how to develop their products for the year ahead; where to take their design, what the consumer wants. That bit of market research is incredibly important."

"Hopefully, we will be back next year and get those relationships going again."
