Food group Kepak has agreed to acquire the business and assets of British-based 2 Sisters Red Meat for an undisclosed sum.

The company operates across four sites; one in Scotland, one in Wales and two in Cornwall in England.

It mainly supplies the British market and processes around 250,000 cattle and more than 1 million lambs each year.

Kepak said the acquisition would boost its supply chain, while also acting as a hedge against Brexit and euro-sterling currency movements.

It said the business would also act as a "sustainable source of UK raw material" for its consumer brands like Big Als and Rustlers.

Kepak already operates around 12 production sites in Ireland and Britain, employing around 3,000 people. It has a turnover of approximately €1 billion.
