Career Zoo is a networking and careers event taking place in Dublin this weekend.
When it began 15 years ago, it was focused on all sectors and job types, however, this Saturday's event is focusing on connecting companies - mainly tech firms - with highly skilled, senior talent.
Director of Career Zoo Brian Ó hOisín says the more focused approach is due to a growing tech sector, particularly in areas such as bio-tech.
He said the majority of companies taking part in the event are software ones – such as SAP, Twilio, Auto Desk, as well as major bio-tech firms.
Mr Ó hOisín said that increasingly financial services firms are looking for more tech professionals, who are very much in demand.
He says tech professionals can demand very high salaries in the current climate and in many cases the roles are "high value" and with companies in "hyper growth" areas.
"It’s definitely a candidate’s market at the moment for software engineers and developers," he added.
With regard to attracting and retaining staff at tech firms, the Career Zoo Director says that while salary is important, company culture is a key aspect.
"It’s really important for people to feel like they’re proud of their organisation, that they belong to it, they fit in, they like the people they’re working with, they like the projects they’re working on and that their work is important and that’s recognised."
Mr Ó hOisín also said flexibility is important as well as a good work-life balance.
