The number of people signing on the Live Register in September fell to the lowest level since September 2008.
The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show that on a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register total recorded a monthly decrease of 300 in September.
This brought the seasonally adjusted total to 249,200.
The Live Register includes part-time workers, as well as seasonal and casual workers who are entitled to jobseeker's benefit or jobseeker's allowance.
Figures earlier this week from the CSO showed that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 6.1% in September.
This was unchanged from the previous month and was down from 7.5% the same time last year.
It also compared to the current euro zone unemployment average of 9.1%.
Today's CSO figures also show that the number of long term claimants on the Live Register in September fell by 19.3% to 105,339.
And in the year to September, the number of people under the age of 25 who were signing on showed a decrease of 17.5%.
