Newstalk Editor in Chief Garrett Harte is to leave the radio station at the end of this year.

In a statement, Newstalk said Mr Harte “regretfully resigned” to “pursue other interests”.

He joined Newstalk when it launched in 2001 and oversaw its transition from a local Dublin station to a national one.

He was appointed Editor in Chief last year, after previously holding the role of editor at the station.

Chairwoman of Communicorp Lucy Gaffney said Mr Harte “has been a phenomenal editor for our station and was instrumental in building the station from a start-up radio station to the success that it is today.

Mr Harte said: “I am very proud to have contributed to the development of Newstalk from its launch in 2001 to its development into a significant and influential media outlet.”

Newstalk expects to appoint a new Editor in Chief early next year.
