One of the world's largest law firms, Baker & McKenzie, has officially opened an office in Belfast.

The company, originally from the US, has chosen Northern Ireland as its Global Services Centre, with the opening of its new office creating 256 jobs.

Nearly half of the roles, which will continue to be filled over the next three years, are mainly for legal professionals, with the remainder in business services.

The average employee salary is £31,000 (€44,340), significantly higher than the average wage for graduates in the North.

Invest NI supported the investment with an offer of £1.28m.

Baker & McKenzie is the first tenant of the newly built City Quays office block at Belfast Harbour, which has long-term plans to have office space for up to 8,000 workers.
