Digicel has proceeded to the next step in its application process to operate one of two new telecoms licences in Myanmar.
The company has announced that it has received confirmation from the Telecommunications Operator Tender Evaluation and Selection Committee in Myanmar that its pre-qualification application has been successful.
The consortium is now clear to participate in the final stage of the tender process.
The consortium is headed by Denis O'Brien, George Soros and Serge Pun.
Current mobile penetration stands below 10% in Myanmar.
The new licences are expected to be awarded to the successful applicants at the end of June.
