There were 2,200 fewer people on the Live Register in March compared to February, according to figures from the Central Statistics Office, with 426,100 signing on during the month.
However the unemployment rate of 14% was unchanged compared to the previous month.
Meanwhile, more than 44% of those on the Live Register have now been signing on for more than a year, up 1.9% on March 2012.
There were a total of 436,500 people on the Live Register in March 2012, representing an overall unemployment rate of 14.9%.
The number of women on the Live Register increased by 2,281, or 1.5%.
The number of men signing on has decreased by 11,247, or 4%, in the year to March 2013.
Over 64.5% of those on the Live Register in March were men.
