Transport hits Dublin shopping ranking

A new survey of European cities has ranked Dublin 14th of 33 for shopping.

The city scored highly for the quality of its shops, but low scores for hotels and public transport dragged its overall rankings down.

The research was carried out by the Economist Intelligence Unit on behalf of financial services company Global Blue.

Dublin was joint top for the length of its sales seasons, but the report said public transport ranked low in terms of affordability and tied with Sofia for last place in terms of quality.

The Globe Shopper City Index ranked the 33 cities according to 38 criteria in five categories: shops, affordability, convenience, hotels and transport, and culture and climate.

London topped the list, with Madrid and Barcelona joint second. Paris was fourth and Rome fifth.
