Google's online video service YouTube has bought the Irish video technology company Green Parrot Pictures for an undisclosed sum.

The Dublin-based company specialises in providing intellectual licensing and high quality picture manipulation technology. 35 hours of video is uploaded to YouTube every minute but some of it is not great quality. The Irish firm is able to sharpen images, reduce visual noise and make video quality better while the video is being uploaded.

Its video improvement technology has been used in Hollywood movies like 'Lord of the Rings', 'SpiderMan' and 'King Kong'.

It was founded in 2004 by its chief executive Anil Kokaram, an associate professor at Trinity College.
