450 construction jobs are to be created in a development project on the Grangegorman site in Dublin's north inner city.
The €486m project was given the final go-ahead at this morning's meeting of the Cabinet, and launched this afternoon.
The old mental hospital is to be replaced by a new facility for DIT, which will bring 22 of its 27 schools together on a single site. It will also house a new primary school and modern facilities for mental health patients.
The first stage of the project being announced today will take ten years, with potential for further development at a later stage.
Kildare Village offering new sales jobs
Over 100 temporary and permanent positions will be created by boutiques at Kildare Village outlet shopping centre between September and December. The jobs will both full and part-time
Four new shops are opening at Kildare Village, which will lead to over 60 new positions. 40% of these are full time jobs.
Kildare Village plans to open other new stores before Christmas. Existing shops are also hiring additional staff in the lead-up to the busy Christmas period. This will see another 45 positions being created.
Intel research deal with Tyndall Institute
Chip maker Intel has signed an agreement with scientists from the Tyndall National Institute in Cork to jointly carry out an advanced research and development project into semi-conductors.
The $1.5m collaboration is the first of its kind for Intel in Ireland and will last for three years.
The agreement also provides Intel with a commercial exploitation licence to technology created through its collaboration with Tyndall.
Welcoming the agreement, Tyndall CEO Professor Roger Whatmore said it provided direct industry and market guidance to the institute's research programmes, ensuring that the work was manufacturable, relevant and of benefit.
