Irish telecoms company Digiweb has bought the Irish and Belgian telephone and broadband businesses of TalkTalk telecoms group.

Digiweb said it wanted to 're-invigorate' the TalkTalk brand, adding that its customers would benefit from savings and additional services. It said it was taking on up to 20 new staff as a result of the deal, the terms of which are not being disclosed.

Digiweb acquired Smart Telecom in December and Internet Ireland in January. The company was founded in 1997 and is based in Dublin.

'We will continue to seek selective consolidation opportunities in the telecoms market to extract synergies and deliver value for our customers and the Digiweb Group,' said Digiweb CEO Colm Piercy.
