US internet retailer CSN Stores has announced the creation of 200 jobs at its European base in Galway.

The positions will be filled over the next three years in customers services, IT and sales and marketing.

Speaking at today's announcement, the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs Eamon O'Cuiv said the company will be a significant employer in the west of Ireland.

IDA Ireland says the firm's decision to locate in Galway is a 'significant boost' for the city which is already home to some of the US and Canada's leading technology firms.

Mayor Padraic Conneally said news of the jobs boost was very welcome following the loss of almost 400 jobs in recent weeks. These jobs have been lost in engineering firms Thermo King and APW and in insurance company Inter Group.

CSN Stores' CFO Nicholas Malone said the company's decision to locate in Galway was based on the impressive local workforce comprised of highly intelligent, well-educated multilingual speakers, who represent several European nationalities.

CSN Stores LLC, headquartered in Boston, is a privately-owned online retail company, ranked among the top three home goods online retailers in the US.

Meanwhile, 60 new positions are expected to be created at Renishaw Ireland in Swords, Co Dublin.
