The volume of industrial production in May grew by 9.3% from the same time last year, the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show.

The CSO says the seasonally adjusted volume of industrial production for the three months from March to May was up 0.9% from the previous three month period.

Breaking down the figures, they show that the modern sector - the high technology and chemical sectors - continued its upward trend, growing by 14.8%, while the traditional sector saw a decrease of 2.8%.

The CSO says that turnover for manufacturing industries was up by 5.9% on an annual basis, and by 2% in the three months from March to May.
