The latest Joint National Internet Research results show that RTÉ.ie is the country’s leading media website.

In the period from July to December 2007 had 167,000 weekly users, 77,000 ahead of its nearest competitor.

The report shows that 419,000 people have logged on to the national broadcaster’s website in the last year, which is the equivalent of 25% of all internet users in Ireland.

69% of the weekly users of the website are from the lucrative ABC1 category. Rival Thomas Crosbie Media also relies heavily on that key demographic, with two thirds of users of and coming from it.

The JNIR report shows that 49% of all Irish adults class themselves as internet users, with 87% of them with connections at home.
