Insurance group Quinn has announced its plans for health insurance prices for 2008, following its takeover of BUPA Ireland's business earlier this year. At the time, Quinn said it would freeze prices for this year.

The company says it is cutting prices in six of its ten plans and increasing prices on the remaining four.

It says the maximum increase for an individual will be 3%, with a maximum 5% for a family. The price of its most popular product (Essential Plus Excess) rises from €528 to €539.

Quinn says it is introducing a 3% service charge for those paying by instalments, arguing that it is equitable to offer a lower cost for people who pay immediately in full.
