Toy maker Mattel says 116,000 products are being recalled in Ireland, following concerns over loose magnets and excessive lead paint amounts.

The company has recalled over 18 million Chinese-made toys worldwide.

Over 110,000 toys from the Polly Pocket, Doggie Day Care, Barbie and Batman ranges have been recalled in this country as part of the safety issue around magnets that could become loose.

4,500 Sarge toys from the 'CARS' vehicle line are also affected by the recall. The toys in question were manufactured between May and August of this year.

Parents with concerns about any Mattel products are advised to check the company's website - mattel.com - or call a helpline on 0044 1628 500303.

This is the firm's second major recall of Chinese-made products in two weeks after 1.5 million playschool toys were previously recalled because paint on them may have included excessive amounts of lead.
