US medical firm to create 65 Tullamore jobs

A US medical technology company, which officially opened its facility in Co Offaly today, plans to create 65 'highly skilled positions' in five years.

Also announced today is the possibility of 400 new jobs in Tipperary if a proposed €30m retail and office development goes ahead.

New Jersey-based Integra LifeSciences develops, manufactures and markets medical devices and is is a dominant player in the neuro surgical and neuro trauma market.

The Finance Minister, Brian Cowen, today opened Integra's facility in Tullamore, which will produce a surgical instrument for the destruction of tissue that is used for tumour removal procedures and many other  surgical operations.

The company intends to create 65 jobs in engineering and other technical areas at the Tullamore facility, with the support of IDA Ireland.

Minister Cowen said : 'We faced strong competition for this investment and we are delighted this decision was taken for Ireland and for the Midlands'.

Zeev Hadass, Vice President European Operations, Integra LifeSciences said Ireland can provide the highly skilled personnel the company is looking for, and management expects theTullamore plant to expand further.

In other jobs news, there is the possibility that 400 jobs will be created in Tipperary town if a proposed €30m retail and office development is given the green light by South Tipperary County Council.

If planning permission goes ahead, Bohercrowe Business and Retail Park, will be developed by Cavan-based company Keelagh Homes.
