Talks between Bank of Ireland and one of its unions Amicus will get underway tomorrow morning at the Labour Relations Commission in a bid to avert a one day strike over a new pension scheme for new staff. Amicus represents over 500 bank of Ireland staff.

They are due to stage a one day strike on Wednesday over the bank's plans to reduce pension guarantees for new entrants. A further one day stoppage is scheduled for 22nd November.

The new arrangements were implemented by the Bank from the 1st of October.

The Irish Bank officials Association, which represents the majority of bank staff, has deferred a ballot for industrial action pending a labour court ruling on the row.
