Electric company car drivers are to get a tax break in order to incentivise the take-up in non-fossil fuelled cars.

Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe is introducing a 0% rate of benefit in kind (BIK) for such vehicles, for a period of one year to allow for a ‘comprehensive review’ of the sector before next year’s budget.

The Government will invest in renewable energy and energy efficiency with €36 million to be allocated to facilitate the expansion of energy efficiency programmes across the public commercial and residential sectors.

€17 million will be allocated to fund the roll-out of the renewable heat incentive and to incentivise the uptake of electric vehicles.
