The 30-year-old woman whose body was found by Gardaí in Ratoath, Co Meath, has been named locally as Ioana Mihaela Pacala.

Ms Pacala was found with fatal injuries in the apartment in Riverwalk Court just after 6pm yesterday.

A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and remains in custody in Ashbourne Garda Station this evening.

It is understood the woman was a Romanian national who had only moved into the apartment last weekend.

Gardaí were called to the scene at around 6pm yesterday, where they found the woman's body.

It is understood she had been the victim of a fatal assault.

The scene was sealed off and specialists from the Garda Technical Bureau and Forensic Science Ireland carried out an examination today while garda officers carried out door-to-door enquiries.

Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at present but are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at Ashbourne Garda Station.
