The European Parliament will vote to ratify the EU-UK free trade deal next Tuesday, a source has told RTÉ News.

A plenary session will consider whether or not to give its consent to the Trade and Co-operation Agreement concluded by both sides on Christmas Eve.

The decision to proceed was taken unanimously by the leaders of the main political groups in the parliament this morning.

If the plenary session approves the treaty, as expected, it will mean it can be formally ratified and adopted by member states.
