The Oireachtas Communications Committee has asked RTÉ to send it a report on a retirement gathering at which some staff members were photographed within two metres of each other.

The committee has asked for information on the circumstances surrounding the organisation of the event and measures "being undertaken by RTÉ to review existing Covid-19 guidelines".

Committee chairperson Niamh Smyth said: "We will consider that report firstly and then decide how to proceed."

Eimear Cusack, Director of Human Resources at RTÉ, has said that a full health and safety review is in progress over the gathering.

Gardaí met senior RTÉ personnel in Donnybrook last Monday as part of their inquiry into a retirement gathering at the broadcaster on Thursday 12 November.

The meeting was part of An Garda Síochána's initial examination to determine if there were any breaches of Covid-19 regulations at the event.

RTÉ's top news presenters apologised after they were photographed at the gathering not fully adhering to social distancing guidelines.
