More than 300 drivers have been arrested since An Garda Síochána launched its road safety campaign for the Christmas period.
Since the campaign was launched on Friday 29 November, gardaí say over 300 drivers have been arrested on suspicion of driving intoxicated.
Gardáí say that in total, 264 people were detected driving under the influence of alcohol, while another 37 were detected driving under the influence of drugs.
So far this year 136 people have died on Irish roads. It is an increase of eight deaths on this time last year.
Gardaí have appealed for motorists to be responsible and to be safe while driving over the festive season, urging drivers not to put themselves or other road users at risk.
They urged motorists to drive within the speed limit, and to never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
