It's just over a year since the Eighth Amendment was removed from the Irish Constitution.
In Voices of the 8th, a new podcast for RTÉ News, some of those involved on both sides of the campaign including politicians, lawyers and doctors reflect on one of the most monumental events politically and socially in Ireland's history.
Episode 4 - Abortion Pills
Statistics produced at the Oireachtas Committee on the Eighth amendment showed that five Irish women were requesting abortion pills online every day.
This had a huge impact on the referendum debate.
The person who brought these findings to the Committee was Assistant Professor Abigail Aiken from the University of Texas who is originally from Derry.
She explains the history of the abortion pill, the use of online telemedicine in Northern Ireland and assesses the current abortion debate in the United States
"When we look at countries like the US that are now facing these big and difficult questions around abortion access - I think that other countries can look to the process that happened in Ireland - the engagement of people and mobilisation are things we can look to as beacons as to how this process played out"
