Met Eireann has issued a status Orange snow-ice warning across much of the east this evening.

The warning is in effect for Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath and Waterford, and is valid until 9am Sunday morning.

Met Éireann has said scattered heavy snow showers overnight and tomorrow morning will lead to accumulations of snow in places, along with some drifting.

The forecaster has also issued a Status Yellow snow-ice warning for the rest of the country which is also valid until 9am tomorrow.

It said it will be very cold for the rest of the weekend with wind chill and icy patches.

It added that snow showers were expected tonight and during Sunday but said some areas would stay dry, especially in the northwest.
