An investigation is under way into the death of a man in Co Cork.

State Pathologist Dr Maire Cassidy has carried out a preliminary examination of two scenes in Skibbereen - a house on High Street where the man's body was discovered and a nearby car park.

The man has been named locally as John Ustic, an English national in his 50s who had been living in west Cork for over ten years.

Mr Ustic and his partner had moved into the rented terrace house on High Street a number of months ago.

Following the preliminary examination, his body was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination is due to be carried out in the morning.

Gardaí are treating the death as suspicious but say the results of the post-mortem will direct their investigation.

Superintendent Ger O'Mahony, who is heading up the investigation, has appealed for anyone who was in the vicinity of High Street after 7.30pm last night to contact gardaí.
