A bathing ban remains in place at Kilkee beach in Co Clare due to the possibility of elevated levels of bacteria in the bathing water arising from heavy rainfall over the weekend.
Red flags, indicating that swimming is prohibited, were originally put in place last Wednesday due to a pump malfunction in the wastewater pump station.
Irish Water has said the latest restriction notice is "unrelated to the pump station or Irish Water and is as a result of recent heavy rainfall".
In a statement, it said that their issue is resolved and that the pump station is fully operational.
Kilkee Chamber of Commerce earlier said it was bitterly disappointed by the reaction of Irish Water to the situation surrounding the pollution of Kilkee beach from the wastewater pumping system.
Clare County Council said the resumption of swimming will be recommended when the results of daily water quality tests return to acceptable levels.
