Three Irish secondary school students have won bronze awards at the 49th International Chemistry Olympiad in Thailand.
Michael Hong from Methodist College Belfast, Diarmuid O'Donoghue of Ashton School in Co Cork and Alicia Huntley, who is a pupil at Regent House School in Newtownards, Co Down, all collected prizes.
The young chemists were tested on practical and theoretical skills during a five-hour laboratory practical and five-hour written examination.
They, along with Aaron Hannon from St Muredach's in Ballina, Co Mayo, were selected to represent Ireland from around 130 participants at the national competition in Dublin City University in April.
297 students from 76 countries took part in this year's international event.
The students were accompanied to the competition by Dr Cormac Quigley from Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology and Dr Mercedes Vazquez from DCU.
