One person was hospitalised and three cows euthanised following a five car crash on the M3 motorway between Dunboyne and Skryne in Co Meath.
The road was closed in both directions this morning but has since reopened.
Gardaí said eight cattle travelled approximately 0.5km, including through two roundabouts, before reaching the motorway.
They were alerted to the animals being on a ramp onto the M3 at 5.30am after there was a collision.
Five cars were involved and three cattle were injured and later euthanised.
Nobody was seriously injured but one person was brought to hospital for observation.
