Some 13 puppies were rescued from smugglers in four separate seizures at Dublin Port yesterday evening in a joint operation by Customs, gardaí and the DSPCA.

The puppies, 11 females and two males are rottweilers, terriers and other small breeds and were destined for the UK market.

The DSPCA has said that despite its messages and previous seizures, those involved in the illegal puppy trade are ignoring the laws, and are still trying to smuggle dogs and puppies out of Ireland without the correct paperwork or vaccination records.

The puppies that were seized yesterday will not be re-homed before Christmas.
