A man is being questioned after a woman was left in a critical condition in hospital after being attacked at a house in Limerick in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí were called to the scene at approximately 12.40am after receiving a report of a disturbance at a property at Hassetts Villas in Thomondgate.

The injured woman, who is aged 37, was taken to University Hospital Limerick with possible stab wounds, where she is in a critical but stable condition.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene and he is being detained at Henry Street Garda Station in Limerick city.
