The woman who was killed in a road traffic incident in the early hours of Sunday has been named as Cliodhna Thornton from Coismeigmór, Na Forbacha, in Co Galway.
The 22-year-old died as a result of injuries sustained when she fell out of a moving van, close to the N59 between Maigh Cuilinn and Galway.
A second woman, also in her early twenties, who was injured in the incident remains in hospital.
She is being treated at University Hospital Galway, where her condition is described as stable.
Gardaí believe that the women fell from the moving vehicle when the back door opened after the van was turned off the main road towards Bearna.
The incident happened at a junction with the N59 in the early hours of yesterday morning.
No arrests have been made but the driver and four other passengers who were in the van have been helping gardaí with their inquiries.
