A man in his 50s has died in on board a fishing vessel 200 nautical miles off the south west coast.

The man, who was an Egyptian national, was fatally injured last night on board the Endurance, a 23m trawler which fishes out of west Cork.

The Marine Rescue Coordination Centre based at Valentia in Co Kerry coordinated contact between the trawler and doctors at the Medico centre at Cork University Hospital, but the fisherman was declared dead.

The Endurance was expected to arrive in Castletownbere with the fisherman’s body at around 2pm.
