A 24-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man in Longford on Tuesday.
Rihards Lavickis of Annaly Court, Longford was brought before a sitting of Mullingar District Court this morning.
He was charged with the murder of Akadiusz Czajowski at Rue Noyal Chatillon in Longford town on 1 November 2016.
Detective Sergeant Eric Godfrey said Mr Lavickis made no reply when he was formally charged at Longford Garda Station last night.
Defence solicitor Frank Gearty made an application for legal aid and asked for his client to be psychiatrically assessed while in custody.
Judge Seamus Hughes granted both requests and remanded Mr Lavickis in custody to appear before a sitting of Cloverhill District Court on 10 November.
