A Tipperary senior hurling goalkeeper is to stand trial in the Circuit Court on theft charges.

The 35-year-old Darren Gleeson from Portroe, Co Tipperary appeared at Nenagh District Court today and has been sent forward to the Circuit Court sittings in Nenagh on 25 October.

Mr Gleeson, a member of this year’s All-Ireland winning Tipperary team, is on bail and was granted legal aid by Judge Elizabeth MacGrath.

Mr Gleeson is charged with stealing €22,000 from a man on 29 November, 2013 by lodging a cheque made payable to himself and drawn on the account of that man, and with stealing €10,000 from the same man on 25 February, 2013, using the same method.
