Two women have died following a three-vehicle traffic crash in Co Westmeath this afternoon.

Two cars and a lorry were involved in the collision, which occurred at Hiskinstown, Delvin, Co Westmeath.

A 38-year-old woman, who was a passenger in one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The 25-year-old driver was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar but died later as a result of her injuries.

The driver of the second car was airlifted to Tallaght Hospital where she is said to be in a serious condition.

The truck driver was uninjured.
