Two men are being questioned by gardaí in Cork after a number of shots were fired in the city this afternoon.
Gardaí were alerted after the shots were fired at Noonan Road shortly after 2 o’clock.
A number of garda units responded and the car was pursued through the city until it went out of control and crashed at Boreenmanna Road.
The car was extensively damaged. A garda patrol car was also damaged.
The area was busy with pedestrians and traffic as two county hurling championship games were scheduled for Páirc Uí Rinn on Boreenmanna Road and the Cork mini marathon was also in progress at the time.
Two occupants of the car were arrested under section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.
A search is now under way for the gun and gardaí are appealing for witnesses who were in the Noonan Road area at the time to contact them.
