An investigation is under way after a teenager was stabbed a number of times in Waterford city last night.
The 18-year-old man was found lying on the path at John Street in the city at 11.30pm and taken to University Hospital Waterford where he underwent surgery.
His condition is not known.
Gardaí say the teenager was stabbed while queuing to get into a nightclub after a row broke out.
He was assaulted by two men, one of whom stabbed him a number of times in the stomach.
It is understood the victim was starting agricultural college in the area this week.
Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses, particularly anyone who may have been in the John Street/John Bridge area of Waterford between 11pm and midnight, to contact 051-305300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
